'Alaa was in the news again today in the WP and on Democracy Now. Was able to get to 'Alaa's Blog today (see my entry yesterday). Another interesting blog is "Global Voices On-Line"

Alan Kuperman, an assistant professor at the Univ. of Texas, has an editorial in today's NYT about Darfur titled "Strategic victimhood in Sudan". Kuperman has no kind words for the Darfur rebels.

Blue Bell ice cream (made in Brenham Texas) was the subject of a loving article in the NYT today titled "Making Texas cows proud". It brought back memories of days past in Jeddah in the late 90's. Shopping was one of the few delightful things I engaged in, while living in Jeddah. It was always a delight to walk into the Sawari Supermarket (on Prince Abdullah Street near Midan al-Hadid. I wonder what they call it now, as Prince Abdullah is King Abdullah?). Sometimes, the store will have Blue Bell ice cream and I hoarded as much as I could get away with, and enjoyed delightful evenings watching TV and enjoying the blessed taste of this Texas delicacy.

Today, I saw to articles in the western press about Egyptian jailed activisit Alaa Abdel Fattah. The first titled "Egyptian Activisit Blogs from Jail" in Wired News. The second titled "Egyptian activist works the blogosphere" in Canoe Network News. Form some reason, I could not get to his blog http://www.manalaa.net.

This man (Gen. P. Pace) deserves a medal for wearing all these medals.

It was somewhat reassuring that Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair have stopped trying to pretend that everything has gone just fine in Iraq, since most of the rest of the world already knows otherwise. But it was very disturbing to hear them follow their expressions of regret with the same old "stay the course" fantasy. It's time for Mr. Bush either to chart a course that can actually be followed, or admit that there is none. (NYT)

Wearing shorts in Iraq could be hazardous to your health (BBC)

THEY have been called mystical, awe-inspiring, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. But it is safe to say that in the 45 centuries the great pyramids of Giza have cast their formidable shadow over the desert, they have never before been described as a cuckoo clock.

But that is what Jean-Pierre Houdin said as he lifted his tall lanky body up the steps into the pyramid of Cheops, the largest of the three pyramids high up on the Giza plateau overlooking this teeming, ancient city on the Nile.

"This is not just a pile of rocks," he said, his words curled around a soft French accent. "This is a cuckoo clock."

Paragraphs above are from today's NYT article about a new theory put forward by a Frenchman. Needless to say that the antiquity Czar of Egypt (aka Zahi Hawas) has no kind words for the Frenchman.

A Seattle school where extra kindness is part of the curriculum (NYT)

If the NYT missed the boat in the editorial regarding journalists (see this blog entry on May 25, 2006). The editorial board had no kind words for the hypocrisy of the US Congress when it came to searching the office of a congressman. To the NYT, I say amen this time. Here is the first paragraph of the editorial:

"Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives have achieved an almost unprecedented level of bipartisanship in denouncing the F.B.I.'s search of a congressman's office. They talk angrily about the separation of powers and the implications of having an executive branch agency make a foray into a lawmaker's official space. Our first question is where all these concerned constitutionalists have been for the last five years.

Computer glitches horror stories in today's WP.

Just as technology amplifies our human strengths, it can also showcase our weaknesses.
Don't believe me? Go to Google News and type in "computer glitch." I do this whenever I need a high-tech horror story for a speech.

When I ran the search last week, up popped stories about recent computer "glitches" that caused Citibank to make 274,800 incorrect banking transactions in Japan; led an Indiana gas station to sell gas for two-hundredths of a penny per gallon; and shut down security checkpoints at the Atlanta airport for hours, costing Delta Airlines $1.3 million.

Over in London, a "computer glitch" was blamed for the British government incorrectly labeling 1,500 innocent citizens as criminals because their names were confusingly similar to those of convicts. The disclosure followed a similar slip-up in which the British government accidentally set free more than 1,000 foreign prisoners who should have been considered for deportation.

IT is easy to label Iran's quest for nuclear energy a dangerous adventure with grave regional and international repercussions. It is also comforting to heap scorn on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his earlier denial of the Holocaust and his odious call for the obliteration of the state of Israel. The rambling intransigence expressed in his recent letter to President Bush offers ample insight into this twisted mindset. Yet there is something deeper in Iran's story than the extremist utterances of a messianic president and the calculated maneuvering of the hard-line clerical leadership that stands behind him.

"فليتقوا الله وليقولوا قولا سديدا"

ليس هناك أدنى شك في أن مفتي الديار الشاب اللامع هو، بكل المعايير، متحدث رائع ومحاور بارع. وهو فوق هذا في كثير من الأحيان مقنع أيضا، لكنه في أحيان أخرى ليست بالقليلة : غير مقنع بالمرة. وأحدث وأوضح مثال على هذا الاستثناء ما صرح به في سياق حديث الثلاثاء أول أمس؛ حين نقل إليه مذيع الفقرة ادعاءا يقول بأنه، شأنه في هذا شأن القيادات الفقهية المسلمة في البلاد، يهادن ويداهن السلطة. ونفى هو ذلك بشكل قاطع، لكن ليس أبدا بمنطق فقيه مسلم؛ وإنما بمنهج محاور سياسي مناور ملهَم. فتصريحه وإن كان يصف حقيقة، فإنها كانت حقيقة من النوع الذي يحمل في طياته باطلا واضحا مرصودا. وسوف يحاول المرء هنا إيصال هذا الرصد، دون زيادة أو مزايدة؛ إذ لا يملك مخلوق ادعاء أن تصريح الفقيه الشيخ كان فيه تعمد المغالطة أو التضليل، لا سمح الله

قال الشيخ الفقيه وقوله الصدق، دافعا ببطلان ادعاء المهادنة والمداهنة، بأنه لا ينتمي ولن ينتمي في حياته إلى أي حزب؛ سواء كان حزب حكومة أو حزب معارضة. وقد أضاف بأنه لم يسع إلى منصب الإفتاء، وإنما منصب الإفتاء هو الذي سعى إليه. والواقع المرصود يحتم علينا أن نسأل عن مبلغ جدية الساعين إليه بهذا المنصب في مسعاهم؛ لدرجة توجب عليهم احترام وتقدير وتوقير صاحب هذا المنصب الزاهد فيه. وآية كل هذا، كما كان الحال في سالف العصر والأوان، أن يسعى الوالي إلى الإمام : لا أن يسعى الإمام إلى الوالي. ولكن الواقع المرصود يقول بأن والي الديار يساوي هذا الرمز وغيره من الرموز الفقهية والدينية الرفيعة بالقيادات السياسية والإدارية .. كولي لنعمتهم. فنجد هذا الإمام ومعه، ومن قبله، الإمام الأكبر شيخ الجامع الأزهر .. بل ومن فوقهما قداسة البابا؛ يتبعون الوالي هنا وهناك، كما يتبعه وزراؤه وحرسه ومراسمه وتشريفاته .. في مناسبة أو أخرى. صحيح أن قداسة البابا والإمام الأكبر يخصص لهما مقعدان في المقدمة، بينما يحشر الإمام المفتي بين بقية الكوادر؛ ولكن ذلك لا ينتقص من الإمام المفتي أمام نفسه شيئا: لأنه سمح كريم بالغ التواضع. إذن فإن الوالي يفعلها، بل يفعلها أقل كوادر معاونيه؛ فيستدعون تلك الرموز الرفيعة للحضور فورا وعلى عجل لكي يكونوا بين مستقبليه تارة أو المستمعين إلى خطاباته تارة أخرى

ولو أن تلك الرموز الرفيعة التي سعت إليها المناصب كانت على قناعة كاملة بقدسية وسمو مواقعها ومهامها وواجباتها لتجنبت تلك المواقف والمواقع الحرجة (بل والمهينة بالنسبة لهم)؛ مثلا عن طريق الاعتذار الكريم الهادئ، بكل ما يملكون من السماحة والتواضع والحكمة. فهذا واجبهم أمام الله وأمام أنفسهم وأمام الرعية، تجاه مواقعهم السامية المقدسة التي سعت إليهم ولم يسعوا هم إليها. وعلينا أن نتصور مثلا؛ لو أن الوالي كان مسيحيا مصريا، وليس هناك ما يمنع دينيا ولا دستوريا أن يكون على رأس الإدارة العليا للبلاد مصري ينتمي لأية عقيدة إيمانية : فهل كان يُقبل أبدا من الوالي المسيحي المصري، أو حتى يقبل هو على نفسه، استدعاء البابا إليه .. بينما يجبره واجبه الديني على تقبيل يده ؟

والواقع المرصود بالطبع لا يتوقف عند هذه الظاهرة الرئاسية التشريفية المراسمية للرموز الدينية الأرفع في الدولة ، ولكنه يمتد إلى آفاق أبعد كثيرا؛ هي أيسر عليهم وأخطر عاقبة على الأمة. ودعونا نأخذ مثالا واحدا قائما، وهو ذلك الجهاز الإعلامي الذي يتعامل معه فضيلة الشيخ الإمام الفقيه؛ ونعني به "التليفزيون المصري" تحديدا. ولنبدأ بالبرنامج الذي يظهر فيه فضيلته بانتظام، وهو برنامج لا يخجله أنه ينبني كلية على الاحتيال والابتزاز والقمار؛ وهذا هو أقل ما يمكن أن توصف به بدعة وحيلة ورذيلة المسابقات التليفونية. وإذا كان من الصعب على مبتدعيها ومروجيها من مذيعين ومعدين ومخرجين ومنتجين ورعاة استيعاب حقيقة أن نشاط البرنامج المالي لا يختلف في نوعيته عن الدعارة وتجارة المخدرات وغير ذلك من الموبقات؛ فلا يمكن أن يغيب عن فطنة وحكمة الإمام الشيخ الفقيه أن مثل هذا البرنامج، بل والتليفزيون المصري (وغيره)، حين يستضيفه : فإن مثلهما هو كمثل الشيطان الذي يعظ. بل أسوأ من ذلك، هو شيطان مريد يجند (بحيله الماكرة الضالة المضللة) شيوخا وأئمة أطهارا أبرارا يروجون (بشعبيتهم ونجوميتهم) لبضاعته الفاسدة المفسدة. وإذا كانت حدود المرء (الراصد) في الوصف قاصرة ومحدودة، فإن أمام الشيخ الإمام الهمام جميع الفرص للتحقق والتيقن من أن الفخ الذي وقع فيه (مع غيره من الفقهاء) أغوط وأكدر وأبشع وأفسد وأقبح وأظلم من ذلك بكثير؛ فالمخططون من خلال جاذبيته ينشرون في الأرض الفساد

ولا يمكن لهذا الراصد أن يتصور بأن الشيخ الفقيه يرى أن ذلك العبث وذلك السفه والاحتيال والابتزاز هو حلال في حلال في حلال؛ رغم أن القرآن الكريم قد نهى تماما عن الإنفاق السفيه : "ولا تؤتوا السفهاء أموالكم التي جعل الله لكم قياما وارزقوهم فيها واكسوهم وقولوا لهم قولا معروفا". كذلك أمرنا الرسول الكريم، أن : "اخشوشنوا فإن النعمة لا تدوم". وإذا كان "الإسراف في الماء حراما"، فما بالنا والتليفزيون المصري (شأنه شأن كل القنوات السفيهة) يحض على إهدار مال الله الذي آتانا على "الكلام الفارغ .. بل والسفيه"؛ بدلا من أن يوجَّه إلى أوجه إنفاق تغني الفرد والأمة وتحفظ لها أسباب العيش النافع الكريم؛ وتعفي الدولة من التسول والاقتراض والاستيراد لإطعام الأفواه الجائعة وكساء وستر الأجساد العارية. ولعل الشيخ الإمام الهمام على بينة من أن موجة مسابقات الابتزاز هي أحدث صيحات الفساد والإفساد التليفزيوني. ويقترح هذا الراصد عليه أن يشكل لجنة مشاهدة لما تبثه قنوات التليفزيون المصري، ترفع إليه تقريرا بالواقع الذي يشهد بتمجيد الرذيلة والعنف والعري والعهر.. بل وأكثر من ذلك التطاول على الله بحشر اسم الجلالة في الأغاني الرقيعة المصحوبة بالرقصات العارية الخليعة؛ لكي يحكم بنفسه إذا ما كان ما تقدمه الدولة في مصر على أكثر قنوات جهازها الحكومي الرسمي يليق بدولة تدعي أنها دولة مسلمة ترعى أمة من المؤمنين (مسلمين وغير مسلمين) وتفرض عليها عقائدها قيما رفيعة كريمة محترمة؟! وعندها نرجوه أن يسأل نفسه إذا ما كان سكوته، وسكوت غيره من الرموز الدينية والفقهية الرفيعة في هذا البلد؛ يعد .. أم لا يعد: "مهادنة ومداهنة" للسلطة القائمة في الدولة، بجميع مستوياتها؟

According to the NYT today, the US Senate's immigration bill will have an impact on the nursing profession in the developing world.

In an editorial in the NYT today under the title "A sudden taste for the law", the newspaper writes:

"It's hard to say which was more bizarre about Attorney General Alberto Gonzales's threat to prosecute The Times for revealing President Bush's domestic spying program: his claim that a century-old espionage law could be used to muzzle the press or his assertion that the administration cares about enforcing laws the way Congress intended.

Mr. Gonzales said on Sunday that a careful reading of some statutes "would seem to indicate" that it was possible to prosecute journalists for publishing classified material. He called it "a policy judgment by Congress in passing that kind of legislation," which the executive is obliged to obey.

Mr. Gonzales seemed to be talking about a law that dates to World War I and bans, in some circumstances, the unauthorized possession and publication of information related to national defense. It has long been understood that this overly broad and little used law applies to government officials who swear to protect such secrets, and not to journalists."

Where was the NYT when the Justice Department used the Civil War laws of sedition to level charges, prosecute and convict Omar Abdul Rahman? If it is the law of the land, should this law not be applied equally to all, including journalists?

In an op-ed article in today's NYT, Ted Koppel talks about armies for hire in the war on terror. This might sound like a far fetched idea, but a few functions of the US Army have already been contracted out to the private sector. Last week, a discussion ensued in connection with out-sourcing border patrol (in the USA) to private firms. Here is a sampler of Koppel's article (It is part of TimeSelect i.e requires subscription to the NYT on-line services)

THERE is something terribly seductive about the notion of a mercenary army. Perhaps it is the inevitable response of a market economy to a host of seemingly intractable public policy and security problems.
Consider only a partial list of factors that would make a force of latter-day Hessians seem attractive. Among them are these:

• Growing public disenchantment with the war in Iraq;

• The prospect of an endless campaign against global terrorism;

• An over-extended military backed by an exhausted, even depleted force of reservists and National Guardsmen;

• The unwillingness or inability of the United Nations or other multinational organizations to dispatch adequate forces to deal quickly with hideous, large-scale atrocities (see Darfur and Congo);

• The expansion of American corporations into more remote, fractious and potentially hostile settings.

Just as the all-volunteer military relieved the government of much of the political pressure that had accompanied the draft, so a rent-a-force, harnessing the privilege of every putative warrior to hire himself out for more than he could ever make in the direct service of Uncle Sam, might relieve us of an array of current political pressures.


The United States may not be about to subcontract out the actual fighting in the war on terrorism, but the growing role of security companies on behalf of a wide range of corporate interests is a harbinger of things to come. Is what's good for companies like Exxon Mobil, Freeport-McMoRan (the mining company that has paid the Indonesian military to maintain security) or even General Motors necessarily good for the United States?

Roger Cohen writes in the NYT today about efforts made by Karen Hughes to frame a proper image of the USA in the Middle East.

He concludes: She's leading an interagency group, including the Defense Department and intelligence agencies, that has "identified some key countries" and is asking "how we can identify the 75,100 most influential clerics and work over the next three years to make sure we invite them." It's also examining "how might the Defense Department work on its military-to-military exchanges."

That's interesting; even more interesting is the fact that "in one of our first digital video conferences, on the screen as it happened, we were able to get two agencies of our government to learn about what the other one was doing that they hadn't known before."

There's the Bush administration for you. Stuff happens when you've got entire government departments out there freelancing. Bad stuff even Hughes-in-overdrive will struggle to undo.

Let Random Voices conclude by saying "Ms. Hughes is the third person to hold this position in the Bush administration. And every time a new person assumes the position, they start from square one. Improving the USA image has to be a long term endeavor and not a project for the rest of President Bush's term. Let us start by building lasting cultural bridges and us deal with the populace of the Middle East in a mature way. Let us stop supporting the despots in the region. The Department of State may hail the resumption of diplomatic relations with Libya as a new era. The people of the Middle East know Mr. Gaddafi for who he really is, a megalomaniac."

In her column in today's NYT, Maureen Dowd comments on the telephone tapping conducted by NSA. The program was exposed last Thursday by USA Today and denied by the phone companies yesterday and today.

Here is what she has to say about the prospects of her phone being tapped by the NSA.

"I hope the N.S.A. isn't tapping my phone at The Times, or tracing my calls, or whatever it calls its maniacal military-industrial civil liberties transgressions. I'm not worried that it'll overhear meaty — or fishy — exchanges with sources at the Bush White House. I don't have any sources at the Bush White House. If I'm talking container problems, it's ice cream, not ports. If I mention Scooter, I'm merely making plans for a Saturday Vespa picnic. Alas, I fret that Gen. Michael Hayden and Crazy Dick Cheney will not hear anything to make all their illegal snooping and Caine Mutiny-style hunting for leakers worthwhile."

Had Ms. Dowd been your average Fatima Abdullah, the subject will be more traumatic. Even, if our fictional Ms. Fatima is just innocuous as Ms. Dowd

أخي الدكتور حسن وأنا وصديقي الطبيب الماكر (صاحب اقتراح سداد الدين العام في خطه من أربع كلمات) سافرنا في أوائل السبعينات الميلادية للدراسة في جامعة القاهرة ، فكنا نذهب يوم الخميس للسينما. والسينما هناك أمرها غريب , حيث يمر بائع الكوكاكولا وسط ظلام السينما لخدمة الرواد. كان سعر الزجاجة خمسه قروش, فكنا حين ندفع له الجنيه يستغل ظلام السينما ليختفي وسط ذلك الظلام فيصبح السؤال الملح طوال الفيلم " فين الباقي" فالظلام دائماً يخلق سؤال "فين الباقي". ومن يومها ارتبط لدي الظلام بسؤال فين الباقي. تذكرت عبارة " فين الباقي "عندما قرأت رد سعادة وكيل وزارة المالية الأستاذ محمد البازعي على الأستاذ تركي الثنيان ( الوطن عدد 2020 ). مبيناً "إن الوزارة تبحث فرض ضريبة القيمة المضافة على السلع المباعة تماشياًً مع دول الخليج لتمويل الخزينة بقصد تعويض النقص في الإيرادات الجمركية نتيجة الانضمام لمناطق تجاره حره". بامكاني أن أقدم له عدة مقترحات لتخفيض بعض مصروفات الخزينة والتي تبلغ الواحدة منها أضعاف المحصل من الرسوم الجمركية, ولكن دعنا من بند مصروفات الخزينة ولنركز على إيراداتها حيث كنت أعتقد أن إيراد البترول وحده أكثر من كاف لتمويل الخزينة سواء حُصلت أي رسوم جمركيه أم لم تحصل. ولإثبات ذلك لنأخذ مسطره وقلماً وآله حاسبه وفرجار ومنقلة ولنحسب: 365 يوماً في السنة مضروبة في متوسط عدد البراميل المنتجة مضروبة في متوسط سعر البرميل, ثم حاصل الضرب هذا لنطرح منه الرقم المذكور في الميزانية كإيرادات الخزينة..... والآن ( فين الباقي.؟ ). لهذا تذكرت ظلام السينما المذكورة في أول المقال, فالظلام قد ارتبط لدي بالسؤال "فين الباقي.؟". حسب إجابة الآله الحاسبة فإن الباقي يكفي للصرف على مشاريع تمتص البطالة ونفعّل صندوق معالجة الفقر ونخفض الدين العام !!. ولكن دعنا أولاً نجد الباقي نفسه قبل أن نبحث في أوجه صرفه. العجيب في الأمر أن ولي الأمر حفظه الله شكل مجلساً للشورى من خيرة رجال البلد وفي كل دورة يزيد لهم من الصلاحيات حتى أصبح بإمكان أي عشره منهم مناقشة أي موضوع كان ولم يقيد حريتهم بأي قيد إلا ضمائرهم وثوابت الشريعة, ومع ذلك لم يخطر في بال أي عشره منهم مجرد سؤال... "فين الباقي؟". ثم على افتراض أني ضعيف في جدول الضرب (رغم حصولي على ترخيص محاسب قانوني) أو إن إجابة سؤال فين الباقي مبهمة فسيظهر سؤال أخر هو هل من العدالة أن نمّول الخزينة من تلك الضريبة.؟. البنوك وحدها تربح عشرين ألف مليون ريال في السنة, لا نأخذ على هذه الأرباح الفاحشة أي ضريبة ونأخذ ضريبة من الأب إذا اشترى لابنه شنطة المدرسة.؟ لا نأخذ ضريبة دخل على الشركات ونأخذ من الزوج إذا أحضر ربطة الخبز للغداء.؟. لا نشاهد من يخطط أرضاً لبيعها بمئات الملايين رغم إنها لم تكلفة أصلاً أي ريال ونترصد للموظف إذا اشترى لنفسه غترة.؟ الذي يحالفه الحظ في سوق الأسهم ليربح ألف مليون ريال وسط أهات ودموع وحسرات مراقبي المؤشر الأحمر ننساه ونتذكر فقط الأرملة إذا اشترت مكينة خياطة لتعمل عليها, بدلاً من ذل السؤال, ونقول لها أين ضريبة القيمة المضافة.؟... يا راجل فين الباقي.؟. أخيراً أقول ... إن من يدفع تلك الضريبة يحق له أن يسأل أين صرفت.؟... أليس كذلك.؟...أنا شخصياً سأسأل, فهل الإجابة جاهزة أم ستختفي وسط الظلام. كإجابة فين الباقي

At the time when Texas State Attorney General (now the Junior Senator from Texas in the US Senate) and the Texas Governor (now President Bush) did nothing much to stop the injustices. Here is the conclusion of the op-ed column.

The Bushies will tell you that it is dangerous and even against the law to inquire into these nefarious activities. We just have to trust the king.

Well, I give you fair warning. This is a road map to totalitarianism. Hallmarks of totalitarian regimes have always included an excessive reliance on secrecy, the deliberate stoking of fear in the general population, a preference for military rather than diplomatic solutions in foreign policy, the promotion of blind patriotism, the denial of human rights, the curtailment of the rule of law, hostility to a free press and the systematic invasion of the privacy of ordinary people.

There are not enough pretty words in all the world to cover up the damage that George W. Bush has done to his country. If the United States could look at itself in a mirror, it would be both alarmed and ashamed at what it saw.

أثارت خطبة مفتي المملكة الجمعة الفائتة إستغراب عدد من الناس المخلصين لوطنهم ، وكانت حول إستنكاره تخصيص بيع المستلزمات النسائية للنساء بدلاً من الرجال ، و أتوقع أن المفتي لم يذهب لأحد أسواق الرياض ليرى كيف يعرف البائع أياً كانت جنسيته مقاس ( ستيان وكلوت ) المرأة بمجرد دخولها للمحل ، ويعرف أي نوع أوموديل تحتاجه ، وذلك بمجرد قياس جرأتها معه ، وهل هي متزوجة أو لا

..ياسماحة المفتي : بعمل المرأة في هذه المحلات ستر للمشترية من إطلاع الغرباء على تضاريس جسمها وصدرها ، الذي يُرى بسهولة من خلف العباءة .. خاصة بعد إنتشار لبس النساء للعباءات الضيقة ..وفيه ضمان عيش كريم لفتاة لم توفق بقبول في جامعة بسبب تقديرها الدراسي أو عدم توفر الواسطة لوالدها ، أو عدم حصولها على وظيفة حتى في أبعد قرية عن المدينة ..ولكي لا تتسلى بالإتصال بأرقام عشوائية لعلها توفق بمن يسليها ، أو تقضي معه جزء من سوالف ليل !! يا سماحة المفتي !!ليس كل بنات المملكة كبناتك وبنات حمولتك !! تتخرج بنتكم ب 70 % بالثانوية وتدخل أفضل كلية ، بينما إبنة زميل بالعمل حصلت على 96 % ولم تقبل إلا في أطرف كلية ، وبواسطة قريبه الأستاذ بالجامعة

ليس كل بنات الناس تُعين بالشارع الذي يوجد به قصر والدها !! وإنما يعين في أطراف سكاكا وجازان ، ومن المؤكد أنك لم تسمع بحوادث صالونات المعلمات في أطراف المدن .. ياليتك كنت مفتحا لترى تناثر أغراضهن وكيف إختلطت بدمائهن ، والله لأنه منظر محزن لأقوى الناس عزيمة ، نحزن عندما تعرض صور عباءاتهن ودفاتر تحضيرهن و ( جزمهن ) ، منظر محزن للغاية ، وتجعلنا نلعن من تسبب في حرمانهن من الحياة ، وحرم أهلهن منهن ..ليس كل بنات الناس يضمن لهن الوظيفة قبل التخرج أو النقل أو التعيين ، فقد وجد من دفع عشرين ألف ريال لنقل إبنته من إحدى المدن للرياض !!يا جماعة يا واصلين !!ليس كل الناس كوضعكم ، ولا تكونوا كإحدى الملكات التي سمعت عن جوع شعبها فقالت : عطوهم بسكويت !! هم ما يعرفون الخبز علشان يعرفون البسكوت أبو ميزان

لم تذهب المرأة للعمل بائعة في محل لتتسلى ، وإنما للبحث عن لقمة شريفة ونزيهة وبلا منة زوج أو مستغل يستغل شرفها وعفتها وكرامتها .. ويدفع لها بمقابل يعرفه الجميع..يا سماحة الشيخ !!قل للسواق اللي يجيبك للجامع الكبير بالرياض ، يتوقف بجوار بائعات الفصفص والحب والبكلات و الأمشاط والحنا ، وتنازل وإسأل إحداهن :ليش تبيعين يا مرة ؟ وش اللي حدك ؟ماذا ستقول لك ؟ هل ستقول إني أتسلى و أوسع صدري ، وكأني جالسة على أطراف الشانزيليه .وإنما ستقول زوجي مريض أو فراش ب 2000 ريال ، أو مطلقة أو رجلي مديون وبيتنا أجار و

ليس كل الناس رواتبهم 42 ألف ريال ، غير الأمطار السنوية والشهرية الغزيرة ، التي لا تأتي من السماء وإنما من الأرض

أعرف فتاة يتيمة الآن تعمل في إحدى قرى الأفلاج تسكن بمفردها لمدة خمس سنوات ولم تستطع النقل للمدينة المنورة رغم تخصصها الصعب و أخرىمعها لمدة ست سنوات وزوجها بمفرده في الباحة ، و كلنا يعرف عينات من هؤلاء ..هل تتوقع أنهن بقين هناك لسبب ، غير سبب الحاجة وطلب الحياة الكريمة؟آمل أن تنزل لأرض الواقع وترى بنفسك مدى حاجة الناس الشديدة للمال ، ولاتهيج الرعاع الذي أقبلت عليهم الدنيا بطبق من ذهب .. لتكن و غيرك خير عون للمحتاجات من بنات الوطن ، ولا تكن وسيف الشك مسلطا على رقابهن

Bukra fi al-mish mish - بكره فى المشمش

The year 2005 was a good vintage for Egypt's reformers.

The president amended the constitution, acting like a real candidate in elections. Opposition groups were allowed to campaign relatively freely and the press was full of the kind of comment and criticism that would have been previously unthinkable.

Things are different in 2006.
Despite promising to replace the loathed and feared Emergency Law, the government has just extended it yet again under the banner of "fighting terrorism". The Egyptians have a saying - "Bokra fi mish-mish". Bokra means "tomorrow". The mish-mish are like miniature apricots - a prized fruit whose season is long-awaited and only a few days long.

"Bokra fi mish-mish" is the promise of something sweet that rarely comes. Perhaps Egypt's democratic spring is little like this prized fruit. The government promises more changes are on the way.

But reformers across the Middle East are watching developments in Egypt wondering whether, like the mish-mish, the country's democratic spring will turn out to have been all too "short and sweet".

The changes on the street have only fueled his contempt for the ruling elite. Their illegitimate government, he said, has made Egyptian identity less distinct and more defined by faith.
"The government has always been run by pharaohs, but in the past they were honorable," Mr. Negm said, returning to one of his favorite topics. "Now, Egypt is ruled by a gang, led by Hosni Mubarak, and he is only there because America and Israel support him. He does not have the support of the street." (NYT)

For Karen Hughes to succeed in her current assignment, she has to explain to the masses in Egypt, why such scenes were allowed to go on in Cairo last week. The USA is acquiescing to human rights abuses in Egypt without much public rebuke or condemnation.

While bird flu has become a huge problem in poultry on farms in a few African countries, including Egypt, Nigeria and Sudan, specialists increasingly suspect that it was introduced in those countries through imported infected poultry and poultry products. Mr. Hagemeijer said the strength of the virus among wild birds possibly weakened as the southward migration season progressed, a trait he said was common in less dangerous bird flu viruses. That probably limited its spread in Africa, he said. (NYT)

For Karen Hughes to succeed in her current assignment, she has to convince Secretary of State Rice and President Bush to abandon their "Kindergarten playground diplomacy." America should stop the "I will not talk to you" attitude that has been the hallmark of this administration. We did not want to talk to the Europeans (prior to the Iraq war), would not talk to Arfat, shall not talk to Hamas or the leader of North Korea and now the Iranians.

Ms. Rice and Mr. Bush may think that the Iranian letter is politically motivated and it could well be. They may even think that it is the rambling of a deluded person, and it is, to a great extent. Yet what the Iranian President exposed in his letter to the US President reflects some sentiments in the US and will evoke a lot of sympathy in the Muslim world. The only sensible thing to do is to engage in direct talks between the US and Iran NOW.

Balancing America's sense of mission in spreading democracy with its national interests has long created contradictions in its foreign policy and global behavior. But so long as there was a moral compass, there was at least a tacit distinction between principled actions and necessary evils. When Ronald Reagan called the Soviet Union an "evil empire," his words bit deep, because America was then a powerful symbol of freedom. It would be good if Mr. Cheney's truths also had an impact — but how does it go about the mote in your own eye?

الفتاوى الرياضيه

حضرة الكابتن هاني رمزي المحترم

يؤسفني جدا أن ضيفك الشيخ في حلقة الأمس من "البيت بيتك" لم يكن موفقا بالمرة في فتواه الرياضية. والإسلام، شأنه شأن جميع الأديان السماوية، هو عقيدة جوهر لا مظهر؛ وليس كل غطاء يستر حتى وإن كان نقابا، وليس كل عري يفضح حتى وإن كان كاملا : فالعبرة دائما بالمحتوى. والذين نشأوا في الريف المصري يعلمون جيدا أن مشهد ثدي أم شابة ترضع وليدها لا يمكن أن يثير غريزة شهوة، لأن الثدي العاري هنا يرتبط مباشرة في الذهن والوجدان بغريزة الأمومة المقدسة المحترمة. وهذا ينطبق بدرجة كبيرة على حال لاعبة كرة القدم؛ فهي لا تدخل مباراة (أو منافسة) تستعرض فيها مفاتن جسدها، وإنما لتحقق غاية شريفة سامية محترمة وتستمتع بنعمة هبة ربانية وقدرات مهارية وبدنية اختصها المولى بها

والغريب أن يسارع الشيخ الضيف الكريم بإدانة كرة القدم النسائية، ويقطع بأنها "مائة في المائة حرام"، ولا يحاول هو وغيره من الشيوخ المشاهير مجرد إسداء النصح المخلص الأمين إلى الجهات المسئولة عن كل هذا الطوفان "من العري والعهر والسكر وتمجيد الرذيلة والتطاول على الله بحشر اسم الجلالة في مواقع ومشاهد الرقاعة والابتذال" الذي يغرق شاشات التليفزيون (وهم يظهرون بأنفسهم عليها) والسينما وخشبات المسارح

والواقع أن حديث "الحلال والحرام" لم يعد له الآن أي معنى في مخاطبة عامة المسلمين؛ فلقد جعلت الدولة، من خلال أجهزة الثقافة والإعلام على وجه الخصوص، كل شيء في رذائل الأخلاق مباحا : "فالله غفور رحيم"!! ولكي يستقيم حال الأمة، فإن على أهل الذكر والفكر أن يبحثوا عن مدخل آخر بديل للإصلاح والصلاح. مثلا : بإزكاء روح الانتماء، فيصبح المعيار في الحكم على مسلك أو مظهر هو أن يكون لائقا (أو غير لائق) بالإنسان المصري (وريث الحضارة العريقة الراقية الممتدة الموثقة المؤرخة لسبعة آلاف عام)، أو بالمسيحي المصري أو بالمسلم المصري. وكنموذج تطبيقي نسوق صورة المسيحي المصري التقليدي الذي احتفظ بقيمته وقيمه إلى عهد قريب (كقاعدة وليس استثناءا)؛ حيث اشتهر بالصدق والأمانة والأدب الجم وطهر اليد ونظافة اللسان (بينما يبقى عكس ذلك تماما هو بكل الأسى والأسف القاعدة السائدة، وليس أبدا الاستثناء، بين المسلمين في مصرنا .. وربما في غيرها من الأمصار). ولم يكن يتحقق للمسيحي المصري (النمطي التقليدي) ذلك أبدا لو لم يكن جادا مخلصا متعمقا في إيمانه، وعلى درجة عالية جدا من احترامه لانتمائه. ومصدر ذلك الاحترام هو من غير شك قناعته التامة بانتسابه إلى عقيدة محترمه تستحق منه أن يمثلها أفضل تمثيل : مهما كلفه ذلك من العنت والحرمان؛ فهو لا يريد "أن يخسر نفسه، مقابل أن يكسب عرض الدنيا كله"
