The Danish Affair

It started in September, when the mass-circulation Danish daily, Jyllands-Posten published the infamous cartoons. The paper has a daily circulation of about 150,000 and is known for its right wing politics according to Wikipedia. Three weeks ago, the same cartoons were published in Magazinet, a small evangelical Christian newspaper in Norway. No one noticed the stories, and that is what they deserve, total negligence

That was the case until the recent uproar in the Middle East. For the last few days, I have been getting daily 4 e-mails dealing with the subject. All full of rage and anger. And all of a sudden, the whole world is talking about it, and millions upon millions of people are paying attention to the topic and the subject. And all of sudden the fanatics from all over the world had a new forum to denigrate the Prophet (PBUH). We hear of boycott of goods, recalling of ambassadors, insults and slurs of public figures based on rumors and mass demonstrations to protect the image of our beloved Prophet (PBUH).

It seems that we have forgotten the teaching of al-Quran. I refer to Surat al-Furqan Ayyah 63 "And the Faithful slaves of the Most Gracious God are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the foolish address them (with bad words) they reply back with mild words of gentleness".

So what did this Moslem uproar achieve, other than give the opportunity for the haters and the ignorant to heap more insult & disparagement on Islam and the Prophet?

To my Moslem friends in the Middle East I say; where are you when Moslems are killing Moslems in Darfur? Why are you silent about the cabal of rulers who oppress the people throughout the Moslem World?
